Yes. Recording, transcription, and speaker labelling run on your Mac. Release installers include the models. The app also checks for updates and revoked licences when online; those requests do not contain your recordings. You can turn off automatic update checks in Settings.

Yes. It captures your microphone and system audio together, with your permission. macOS Screen Recording permission is needed for system audio, even when you are not saving a video. Keep the display awake during calls. For AirPods, choose your Mac’s built-in microphone.
In ~/memory on your Mac. Each recording gets a folder containing its audio, transcript, and Markdown note, plus video if you enabled screen recording. You can open the files directly and keep them independently of the app.
Yes. Double-tap either ⌘ key, say a phrase, and after two seconds of quiet it’s pasted into the app you’re typing in, such as Slack, Mail, or Terminal. Your speech is recognised on your Mac and the audio isn’t saved. Dictation is free, with or without a licence. It needs macOS’s Accessibility permission, and it’s Mac only.
Yes, with a tool that has access to local files. Give it access to the recordings you choose. No Memory Notch API, MCP server, or export is required. If you send notes to a cloud AI service, that service’s data policy applies.
Memory Notch records and transcribes conversations. Automatic summaries are not included. Library search looks at note titles and metadata; it is not full-transcript search. Speaker labels are numbered rather than names, and overlapping voices can be difficult to separate.
