Questions
Does Memory Notch need an internet connection?
No. Recording, transcription and speaker labels run on your device, with models included in the app. When a licence key is installed, the app occasionally downloads a list of revoked licences; that request contains none of your recordings.
Where are my recordings?
On iPhone and iPad, open the Files app and go to On My iPhone (or On My iPad) → Memory Notch. Each recording is an audio file and a Markdown note. On a Mac, they are in the memory folder in your home folder.
The Record button says “Getting ready”.
The first time you open the app, it prepares its on-device speech models. This usually takes under a minute, and recording unlocks when it finishes. Your library and settings work in the meantime.
Can it record phone calls or other apps?
Not on iPhone or iPad: the system doesn't let apps record phone calls or other apps' audio. Use Memory Notch for meetings in the room or on speaker. The Mac app can record your Mac's system audio.
Why did my recording stop at five minutes?
Without a licence, each recording stops at five minutes and is saved in full. Unlocking removes the limit.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.
I already have a licence key for the Mac app.
Open Settings in the app, tap Enter licence key, and paste your key. The same key unlocks the iPhone and iPad app.
How do I start recording without opening the app?
Add the Memory Notch button to Control Center, or say “Start Memory Notch” to Siri. On an iPhone with an Action Button, choose the Memory Notch shortcut in Settings → Action Button. On iPad, starting from Control Center or Siri opens the app.
How do I delete a recording?
Open the note, tap ⋯, then Delete, or swipe left on it in the library. This deletes the note and its audio from the device.
The app says my device doesn't have enough memory.
The on-device speech models need more memory than some older devices can give one app, such as iPhones and iPads with 3 GB of memory. Recording isn't available on those devices.
